What should I expect on Thursday nights at
the gathering?
It’s Thursday night, somewhere around 8:00, and you’re
in the annex at New Life Tabernacle. The first thing you might notice
is that the people are genuinely happy to see each other. No
fake smiles or phony handshakes. We just really like hanging out,
talking, laughing together, being real, and being there for each
other. So, you’re walking around meeting people, drinking some
coffee and eating some brownies, and then the worship band starts.
After
praise and worship, Pastor Josh will talk about something from the
Bible that can help us live our lives better and develop our faith
further. After that, a few moments are given for you to get face
to face with God, just you and Him. Sometimes we break up into small
discussion groups to talk about the message and how to flesh it
out. Then you can bet that whoever doesn’t have to go study,
wake up early for work, or something, will want to hang out and talk
some
more…sometimes go out to Steak ‘n’ Shake or Big
Boy. Bottom line is we are a group who whole-heartedly
and sincerely love God, and whole-heartedly and sincerely love others
and unashamedly admit so.
What's the deal with the music and singing?
Let's talk for a minute about "praise and worship." When
the band starts playing, you will probably notice that the place
is not exactly like a particular kind of church or what
you’re used to church being like (especially if you’re
used to being able to sleep during church). We come from a lot of
different backgrounds, and that diversity really makes nlcc unique.
But most of us have one thing in common…we’re excited
about what God’s doing in our lives. Some of us have been set
free from life controlling vices, some have had life-changing moments
with Him, others have had deep emotional scars healed, and the list
goes on. God has been so good to us it makes us want to express our
appreciation and love to Him in whatever way we can.
Who can come to the gathering on Thursday nights?
If you breathe, you qualify! But even if you don't we can work something
out...We want you to know first and foremost that you’re accepted
at nlcc, no matter who you are, what your background is or what you’ve
been through. Please feel welcome to check us out. We love meeting
new people and making new friends. We look forward to seeing you!
